Good Afternoon UND!
It's been a very chilly start to the week so far, with high temperatures today only topping out in the 40's for most across the Northern Valley. Additionally, we even saw rain and snow showers impacting campus earlier today; even though it might say spring on the calendar, our weather doesn't always want to cooperate! We can expect to see even more chances for mixed precip continue throughout the next several hours, but things should start quieting down pretty quickly after sunset once we lose our solar heating and resulting instability. Overnight, expect clearing skies and dropping temperatures, with most of us waking up to temperatures in the 20's by tomorrow morning. If you're trying to get a garden going or have any potted plants ready to go, definitely hold off until at least the end of this week before putting them outside! Thankfully, winds will calm down overnight, but there will still be just enough of a breeze to bring windchills down to the low 20s and upper 10s.
Looking ahead to the rest of the week, expect this cooldown to last through Wednesday, with highs stubbornly refusing to lift out of the 40s, and overnight lows sticking in the 20s and 30s. Each day will feature a mix of clouds and sun; likely more sunshine in the morning followed by cloud cover and spotty showers by the afternoon and evening. Winds will remain gusty tomorrow, so if you're looking to schedule a flight, a combination of gusty winds and cloud cover might lead to some weathered flights by tomorrow and Wednesday afternoon. Thankfully, as we turn our attention to the end of the week, we'll see conditions start to improve, with highs reaching the low 60s and overnight lows in the low-mid 30s. We'll likely stay mostly dry through Friday as well.
Last but not least, if you're looking to get out and enjoy the final weekend before finals, it looks like things are shaping up for a pretty good weekend! We're not tracking many (if any) chances for rainfall here in Grand Forks all the way through early next week. Additionally, temperatures will continue to be on the uptrend, reaching the mid 60s by Sunday, and maybe even flirting with the 70 degree mark by next week! So, all in all, a bit of a gloomy start to the week, but expect significant improvements to conditions by the upcoming weekend!
